Do you like building things? Are you interested in knowing how things work? The Mechanical Engineering Technology program is designed to prepare you for a career in the ever-changing, fast-paced engineering industry as an engineering technician. It is our goal to teach you the technical skills to prepare you for a rewarding career in the growing field of engineering technology. Through a combination of class, lab, and possible Work-Based Learning work experience you will learn the basic theory and computer skills necessary to design mechanical systems. 10 – 15 The demand for Engineering Technicians is high and projected to grow. Students also have the option of building on this degree by transferring to the University of North Carolina system and pursuing a degree in industrial/engineering technology. Engineering technicians may obtain professional certification by application to organizations such as ASQC, SME, and NICET. Students are required to purchase minor drafting supplies (about $50). The math department requires purchase of a graphics calculator (about $100). Employment: As a graduate with this degree, you can look forward to job opportunities in manufacturing, the construction industry, service agencies, and government institutions. Salary: According to statistics from the U.S. Department of Labor, salaries for mid-level positions range from $35,000 to $45,000 a year.

Once you receive your Associate in Applied Science degree at WCC, you have the option of transferring your credits to ECU towards a Bachelor’s in Industrial Technology (BSIT).
